Josef Umdasch Research Prize for Forestry and Timber Science 2012 2010-04-05

The University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, this year invites entries for the eleventh international Josef Umdasch Research Prize, which is endowed with 30,000 euros in prize money.


Umdasch Concern 2010: Strengthened out of the economic crisis 2001-05-13

The Doka Division (concrete formwork technology) and the Umdasch Shopfitting Division (shopfitting), the two companies of the Amstetten-based Umdasch Concern, operate worldwide and are classic “followers of the economic cycle”. The braking marks from the world economic crisis were thus visible until the third quarter of 2010. Against this background, the positive results of ordinary business − € 60 million based on revenues of € 908 million achieved by the concern − are all the more remarkable. The cash flow at € 92 million and the production and sales investment at € 39 million also maintained the level of the previous year. The Umdasch Concern employed an average of 6,900 staff members in 2010; at the present time just over 7,000 people are working for the concern. This figure also reflects the growth which was first observed again at the end of 2010 and which continues to provide optimistic prospects for 2011.

Award of the Josef Umdasch Research Prize 2010 2010-11-17

The Josef Umdasch Research Prize for outstanding achievements in the field of forestry and timber science was awarded, for the tenth time, at a function held at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna. The award ceremony took place on 16th November 2010 in the presence of Hilde Umdasch and Alfred Umdasch, the endowers of the Josef Umdasch Research Prize and owners of the Umdasch Group, and the University’s Rector Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Martin H. Gerzabek.
The prize was awarded for the application-focused research work of Tomas Joscak, Martin Denesi and Matus Joscak on reducing the resources used in the production of fibreboard and chipboard, and for the basic research carried out by Jozef Keckes on ways of using radiographic techniques to examine the microstructure and nanostructure of wood and composites.
Andreas Ludwig succeeds Reinhold Süßenbacher 2010-05-03

Dr. Andreas Ludwig (50) − until April 2010 CEO of the listed company Zumtobel AG − will replace the Chairman of the Executive Board, Dr. Reinhold Süßenbacher (61), as Chairman of the Executive Board of Umdasch AG from the beginning of September 2010. Dr. Süßenbacher, who has led the company for over eleven years with great success, will join the Supervisory Board under the chairmanship of Hilde Umdasch and Alfred Umdasch. With Dr. Ludwig as Chairman of the Executive Board the existing board members Ing. Josef Kurzmann (DOKA Group) and Dipl.Vw. Helmut Neher (Umdasch Shopfitting Group) will form the new management team of the Umdasch group.

The Josef Umdasch Research Prize for outstanding achievements in the field of forestry and timber science was awarded for the ninth time at a function held on 26th November 2008 at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna. The main prize was awarded for research into a timber preservative based on natural substances.

Instituted in memory of the founder of the Umdasch Group, this research prize is one of Europe’s premier awards for research in the field of forestry and timber science. The deadline for the submission of entries for this year’s Josef Umdasch Research Prize is 31st May 2010.

The worldwide financial crisis and its spread to the real economy drove the USA, Japan and large parts of Europe into a recession during the fourth quarter after a period of strong growth. In spite of these developments, we can still be more than satisfied with the past business year.
